Zen meditation is more or less like Buddhist meditation. If Buddhists meditate to rid themselves of the negative thoughts that are preoccupying their lives, Zen meditation is about living at the moment.
Koan is a different kind of meditation technique. If Zen and Buddhist meditation require the practitioner to still the mind, Koan is somewhat the opposite. It requires you to think, which isnt exactly stilling the mind.
